We are built to aim and hit targets. If you look at the things you do in your life that give that sense of purpose, it’s when you are working towards a goal. Even the things we enjoy doing for fun involve this aspect. I mean that’s what sports are, aiming and hitting targets.
Think about what you are doing or not doing to reach your goals right now. You are aimed in one direction or another. The actions you take will either serve your goals or detract from them. Take a minute to think this through and it’s obvious. But, if you do not map out your goals, if you’re just kind of reactive to life and not proactive, then you might hit the target by mistake, maybe, but it’s not likely. If it does happen that you hit the target but you didn’t really plan on it, well how can you recreate it, or ensure it will happen again? It’s possible, but it’s not likely.
Better is to define your goal (target) and make a plan (aim) to reach them (hit the target). Then if it works, and you reach your goal, you know exactly how to do again, or at least set yourself up for a high probability of success again.
So let’s make a plan!
