“I never thought I would be so into my fitness and my health. I always had a gym membership that I rarely used. I always lacked the motivation to go to the gym. Even when I did go, I would attend a class or maybe run on a treadmill. It wasn’t until I joined CrossFit Renaissance that I felt like I finally found a passion for working out. Now I find myself looking forward to going to the gym and pushing myself. I have goals for myself that I never imagined I would have or be able to achieve. At CrossFit Renaissance, I feel as if I’m part of a second family. I have met people that I know will be a part of my life for years to come. The coaches are all amazing at what they do and each have something different to offer. I truly feel blessed to have found CFR. I’m a happier me because of it.”
1. What brought you to CrossFit Renaissance?
“I was out with Kelly and Alex one day and I loved how passionate they were about CrossFit. I thought to myself, ‘I want to feel that passionate about my health and fitness.’ It was that day that I decided I would give CrossFit a chance and I signed up a week later.”
2. What was your first impression?
“At first, it was intimidating. I remember walking into the gym the day I was going to meet Bill and being so intimidated by the setting. There were no machines, just a huge open space with bars, ropes hanging from the ceiling, and these huge tires that I think would intimidate just about everyone.”
3. Has that changed?
“I had my doubts, but as soon as I started talking to Bill, I felt better. He was very friendly and explained everything in detail and after the meeting I felt like I could definitely give this CrossFit thing a try or at least give it my best shot.”
4. What are you currently working on?
“Until a few days ago, I was working on my kipping pull-ups, but I was finally able to do a few of them. I have to say, I never thought I would be strong enough to do a pull-up, but now I believe that I can and look forward to doing a lot more reps in a row and hopefully eventually I can do strict pull-ups. I am also working on my double-unders. CrossFit has taught me that anything is achievable as long as you put in the time and effort.”
5. What is the toughest part of CrossFit for you?
“I believe that the toughest part is really showing up and making the time. Once I am at the gym, I am focused on the workout and always try to do my best, to the best of my ability.”
6. What is your favorite memory at CrossFit Renaissance?
“There are a lot of good memories from the gym. One that always sticks out to me is the first time I was able to do a push-up. As silly as that may sound, when I came to the gym I couldn’t do a push-up. Bill told me to just try doing a push-up with each workout, even if I wasn’t successful. It was a little over a month at the gym. I tried and I was successful! It was a big deal :)”
7. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
“I have been doing CrossFit since the end of May 2015, so about 9 months now.”
8. What kind of results have you seen, both physical and mental?
“I have definitely seen some amazing results from CrossFit. I feel myself getting stronger, both physically and mentally. I have so much more energy and I see it in all aspects of my life. I am a nurse and my job can be physically demanding, at times. I can definitely see a difference in my abilities at work ever since I joined CrossFit Renaissance. Mentally, I am more confident and more determined in everything that I do. CFR has taught me that all goals are achievable with hard work and determination.”
