Resistance training and aging in women.

Ladies, stop worrying about bulking up, and get started with resistance training ASAP! There’s no time to lose!

Here’s why…

Resistance training or weight lifting – like we incorporate here at CrossFit Renaissance – will help you combat the decline in lean muscle mass that you will start to experience as a natural part of aging after 30.

Feeling softer than you used to?  That indicates a change in your body composition .  An increase in body fat as a % of total weight, and a decrease in muscle mass as a %.

Have you started to realize that the same amount of calories you have always eaten now leads to weight gain?

It’s not a figment of your imagination!  But here’s what you may not know. Losing muscle mass slows the rate at which your body uses calories (metabolism). This can make it more challenging to maintain a healthy weight. If you continue to eat as you always have and don’t increase your physical activity, you’re likely to gain weight. (Mayoclinic.org)

Lifestyle and genetic factors also contribute to body composition changes as you age.  Busy high stress lives can lead to less sleep and emotional eating – both of which often lead to gaining body fat.

At CrossFit Renaissance, we prescribe working out 3-5 times per week, incorporate resistance training into our programming and coach our clients to  eat a balanced, whole-food-focused diet in quantities that fuel their workouts and their lives!

When done consistently, our method will help you combat the aging process and feel great in your own (slightly older) skin.

Oh, and those women with the larger muscles that you may associate with weightlifting?

They WANT those muscles!   And they have to work extremely hard to look the way they do.   Their bodies are crafted intentionally with specific diet and lifting programs.  #onpurpose #neversaynever
