It’s in the air. Fall is right around the corner. Back to bedtimes, homework, uniforms, and SCHEDULES. Every year we establish routines that help us stay on track.
Has exercise been on your family’s To Do list, but you can’t seem to make it happen? This is the time to JUMP on it!!! Establish a NEW NORMAL and make exercise part of your family’s week from the get go!
3 Road Blocks I had to learn to Avoid!
#1 I Don’t Have Time
Look at it this way, out of the 168 hours in the week, you can afford 3 hours to prioritize your health by establishing a new workout routine. Bonus! Working out actually increases your energy – so you will get through some of the other stuff a little faster:) Take the time – It is not going to magically appear.
#2 I Don’t want to Overwhelm the Kids
Beyond the physical and health benefits, exercise gives kids an outlet to burn off steam and introduces them to a healthy way to relieve stress. I haven’t found a video game yet that can make the same claim. Also, by building a fitness program in from the beginning, it won’t be disruptive. So it will actually be less overwhelming:)
#3 Mom Guilt
4 years after I had my kids, I realized that I was incredibly jealous of how my husband was able to prioritize his workouts. But he had already figured out that exercise was critical for his well being, and was fitting it in to his schedule. When I thought about working out instead of being at home, I felt overwhelming guilt. I joined a 6 week challenge at CFR to see if I could do it. In the end, I realized that by taking the 3 hours a week for myself, I am actually a better mom. I am happier, healthier and leading by example – showing my kiddos how important health and fitness are. Truth be told, I still have the guilt, but I just remember why I am doing it and it is enough to keep me going! Respect the importance of working out and try to keep it guilt free!
Jump start your year with family focus on health and fitness!
Hope to see you at the gym!
