Who do you spend the most time with?

It is said that you are the product of the 5 people with whom you spend the most time with. I know that if I chose 5 people, at random, here at CFR, I’d be in pretty good shape.

Sometimes it’s worth taking stock of the people you spend time with. The friends and peers that got you to this point might not be the ones that help you crush your life goals. In other words, you may need to drop a few friends along the way.

Now before you write me off, just hear me out. Study most any successful person and you will hear them say something in line with this. ‘Who you spend your time with is extremely important.’ Day to day, week to week, and year to year, you’re either growing and improving, or you are stagnating and wasting.

There is a reason that great athletes go to training camps to practice with other great athletes. Iron sharpens iron. Great musicians push each other to be better. They compete, they learn and they grow with each other.

Ask yourself if the way you spend your time is getting you closer to your goals. Are the people you are spending time with helping or hindering your progress? Then make the conscious decision, for your own future, to seek out other peers that will drive you closer to your goals.

(For the record, you don’t have to ‘break up’ with your friends or peers. You can simply choose to stop spending as much time with them. People change. Values shift over time as people mature. It’s a part of life. You can take control of your life. Make yourself and your future your #1 priority. In 5 years, you’ll be grateful that you did.)
