Jessica started with CrossFit Renaissance, as a member, in April of 2016. In August of 2017, she received her CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certificate.  Jess coaches Crossfit group classes, Bootcamp, and is a Personal Trainer.  She launched the Renaissance Youth program for kids ages 4-17 and became certified in the Brand X Method for running a Youth Program.

Jess quickly fell in love with CrossFit. It was an unexpected, but natural fit for me. I need to have a goal to focus on!  With CrossFit, there is always a new challenge and it is easy to track progress.  Focusing on how I feel, instead of how I look, was also a welcomed change.  Now I feel strong and capable.  It is very empowering!”

Her favorite part of being a coach? “The look in an athletes eyes when they are focused on achieving their goals.”

How did you first get into doing CrossFit?

Fitness was an important part of my life before kids.  I grew up in ballet, and later discovered yoga, cycling and triathlons.  But when I had my twins, I couldn’t figure out how to fit in working full time, spending time with my family, and working out.  Shortly after their 4th birthday, I saw a FaceBook post for the New You Challenge – a 6 week, 18 class introduction to CrossFit.  I knew that it was time to prioritize my own health and fitness.  I came in for a meeting and heard about the program.  I signed up on the spot!  At the end of the 6 weeks, I felt stronger, happier, more resilient and had more energy.  I was hooked and have not looked back.

What are you most passionate about, professionally?

I am passionate about helping the members at CrossFit Renaissance reach their goals and celebrate their successes!  They are LIVING their life – actively pursuing heath, fitness and community.  That resonates with me at my core, and I am incredibly thankful that my job is be a part of that pursuit.

What are you known for?

My positive attitude – I have a habit of calling the workouts “fun!”   (Cue eye rolling)

What’s the one problem you are best at solving for your clients?

I am quick to correct a client if I see their knees collapsing inward (valgus knee) during a squat.

What is your favorite recovery food?

I could eat grilled chicken with honey mustard and sweet potatoes every day of the week.

What lift and WOD do you hope to avoid?

Nothing yet.  But some workouts still give me the butterflies because I know I am going to be uncomfortable.

What are you passionate about personally?

Teaching my kids that they can do what ever they put their mind to.

Give us a little known fact about you.

My friends called me Stumpy in high school because of my short stumpy thumbs!   Makes it tough to get that hook grip!!!
