Meet Dan Keebler!
Dan is from Northeast Philly and he has been at CrossFit Renaissance for 4 years! He came in looking for consistency, motivated people, and a better way to train. But what he found was more than just workouts. He wanted something that was going to give him Long-Term Motivation. So, he found a community that keeps him showing up, learning, and building a healthier lifestyle both physically and mentally.
From solo Workouts to a motivated Community
Dan had always stayed active, whether it was training at home, going to the gym, or working out at the commericial gyms. But eventually, working out alone started to feel repetitive. He wanted something that was going to give him Long-Term Motivation.
“I was bored of working out solo and like to be consistent at home, the gym, the Y, wherever and wanted to be around motivated people.”
Unlike many people starting a new fitness journey, Dan didn’t have major hesitation about trying CrossFit. Instead, he discovered something he didn’t even realize he was missing; a supportive gym community and training environment that made fitness more enjoyable and sustainable
Starting at CrossFit Renaissance for the First time
Walking into his first class at CrossFit Renaissance felt unfamiliar at first, but the coaching and atmosphere quickly helped him settle in. Like many new members, stepping into a new environment felt uncomfortable at first.
“It felt a little weird for me at first just because it’s was new. The trainers are good at their job, and theres a good balance of seriousness and funny shit in every class.”
That mix of quality coaching, accountability, and a welcoming community is what helps so many members feel comfortable and keeps them coming back. Dan is a total team-player and will always cheer on others.
Learning movements and Building strength/Community
Before joining, Dan had very little experience with barbell movements outside of bench pressing. Since starting CrossFit, he’s been introduced to entirely new skills, exercises, and training styles.
“I wasn’t use to the workouts with a barbell besides bench pressing. Along with a bunch of other movements I’ve never tried or haven’t done since a kid.”
Dan always enjoys that there is always something new to learn. Instead of needing to know everything right away, he embraces the process. The constant opportunity to learn new skills is one of the things that keeps CrossFit interesting for him.
“I was all over the place still am sometimes. I’m cool not being a know it all and learning bc there’s always a curveball that keeps it interesting.”
Through all of this he also learned what Community means to CrossFit Renaissance. The community of classes is something that most members enjoy, and so does Dan. Something he noted that he was proud of was the fact that he helps and encourages others in workouts. Dan is a total team-player and will always cheer on others. He is known to have a workout buddy or two, and cheers them on while also holding them accountable.
Perservering through Injury
Dan is a textbook definition of grit and perseverance. He suffered a shoulder injury during his years at CrossFit and still showed up to class regularly. By modifying movements during his recovery, he was able to become healthy again. Coaches even said he came back stronger than before! He noted that since he joined CrossFit he saw an improvement in his health, fitness, strength, and stress.
spartan Races
Dan has also completed many races like Tough-Mudder’s and Spartan Races, saying that CrossFit greatly impacted his training.
Dan’s Long-Term Motivation
When asked what keeps him coming back on hard days, Dan’s answer was:

“I don’t give up and I want to pass it on to people around me that might need it.”
Dan’s self motivation and dicipline are infectious, the way he stays motivated and locked in wears off on others. Dan is also a total team-player and will always cheer on others. He also thinks long-term when it comes to health and fitness. For Dan, fitness is about more than workouts or performance. It’s about building a lifestyle that lasts long-term.
“What excites me about the future is getting old and still being able to take care of myself, family, and still have energy.”
