Member Success Stories at CrossFit Renaissance

John Bohrer

What brought you to CrossFit Renaissance?

“When I was younger, I was always into sports. I was in pretty good shape all the way up into my mid-20’s. About a year ago, my friend asked me to run a 5k with him and I wasn’t able to complete it. I asked him to help me get back in shape. That’s when he told me to give CrossFit a try. He told me he always wanted to join a CrossFit gym, but never had the chance. That’s when I gave Bill a call.”

What was your first impression?

“I was really excited because I was so unsure of the whole CrossFit process. What made it so different than a regular gym? Was it really effective like everyone says? These thoughts kept me coming back every time. I was also a little intimidated seeing people do certain movements, like Snatches and Cleans, thinking I could never do it. But overall, my first impression was being impressed. The gym is extremely efficient and organized. The members are really nice and welcomed me in, especially the 7:30 class!

Has your impression changed?

“Not at all. I’m still excited to come to every class.”

What are you currently working on?

“I’m trying to clean up my movements, Power Cleans in particular. I tend to get a little sloppy with heavier weight. Overhead Squats, as well.”

What is the toughest part of CrossFit for you?

“The toughest part for me is actually getting to the gym. I wish I could go 5-6 days a week. I’m a bit of a workaholic and sometimes getting to the gym is impossible. So I really try to get there 3-4 times a week.”

What is your favorite memory at CrossFit Renaissance?

“The day I Deadlifted 445 pounds. I never thought I’d be able to do something like that.”

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

“January 20, 2017 will be one year.”

What kind of results have you seen, both mentally and physically?

“Physically, I’m in the best shape of my life. That 5k that I couldn’t complete is long forgotten. I enjoy looking at myself in the mirror now. CrossFit really showed me a better lifestyle, a healthier lifestyle.”
