I saw a quote this weekend that hit home. It’s sticky (and I love it) because it calls us out. Don’t wait. Do it now!
Let’s look at a goal in reverse. It’s November and you want to lose 10 pounds. My question would be – would you prefer to achieve that weight loss by March or April? March, right? 99% of the time, we want the results sooner rather than later. So then why do we wait to get started?
Do you wait for Mondays, back to school, New Years, start of summer, etc to start working on a new goal? What if waiting for those days indicates that you aren’t really ready for big, life changing action and decisive results? Is it a sign of procrastination? Essentially, you are giving the power to the date on the calendar instead of accepting the responsibility to start yourself. How does that hit?
The simple step that will lead to reaching your results sooner – START SOONER rather than later!
Many clients come to us with big goals in mind. We hear goals like, “I want to (get in shape) (get fit) (lose 30, 60, 90 pounds) or (improve strength)“. These are big North Star goals that often take years to achieve.
At CrossFit Renaissance, we meet quarterly with our members to make sure they are moving in the right direction. And sometimes we will sit down with a member who has never mapped out a plan to hit a goal. On paper. With measurable action steps, check in methods, and accountability partners designated. We look at WHY the goal is important to them. And we look at the timeline to achieve them. And then we make a plan – a series of actions that need to happen – to achieve the goal.
Regardless of the day on the calendar, they will need to push forward, taking strategic action that moves that needle even just 1% in the direction of the goal. They’re gonna need to dig deep and continue, or sometimes restart, and the day it falls on won’t matter. It CAN’T matter.
The skill that you will develop is the ability to align your intention to hit your goal with the action you take daily. It will become a reflex – a habit. And the more you practice it, the less you will procrastinate, and the faster you will get to your goal.
