4 Steps to get Consistent in the Gym – even when you don’t think you have time!

Successful people don’t “wing it”.  They plan meticulously.

They start from the big goal and then back out into what they need to do week by week, day by day ,and even hour by hour.

They don’t wish.  They PLAN.

At CrossFit Renaissance, we are focused on working out consistency.    We know (because we have been doing this for a really long time) that getting into the gym for a CrossFit workout at least 12 times in a month is the minimum consistency you need to drive the results.

What results?  More strength.  Less body fat.  More energy.   Less stress.  More confidence.  Improved conditioning.  Healthier and happier. And let’s not forget – more motivated!

We actually see it as the #1 driver of these results for 90% of our members.  (The other 10% are already consistent and have super specific goals that they are trying to achieve)

Are you having trouble imagining how to fit that all into your insanely busy schedule?

Don’t worry – I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t know that it was possible.

I want to help you develop the skills needed to take action, create momentum, and ultimately to reach your goals. You are going to get proactive in order to get 12 workouts in during the month.  And when you do – you’re calling it a WIN!

But before I get any farther  I need you to commit to 2 things for me.

  •  1. Stop making excuses and repeating old stories about why you can’t make it to the gym 12 times a month.  Don’t listen to the voice in your head. Old stories keep you stuck in place.  You have read this far because you want something different! So it’s time to ditch them to begin to see the changes you are looking for!
  1. 2. Be a little flexible.  Not too long ago I got trapped by only considering what I wanted for my workout schedule.  But I discovered that if my goal (MY WHY) was important enough, and I stayed flexible, I could get a lot more workouts in than I was before.  It just looked different than what I first pictured. It’s time to get curious about what CAN work.  Half Full baby!

So now that you have committed to eliminating excuses, turning down the volume on old stories that hold you back from making progress, and you have committed to staying flexible and curious about what CAN work…

Let’s  MAKE A PLAN!   Here are the 4 steps I want you to take today that will set you up to win the month!

STEP 1:  Make a master calendar for the month.  Write down everything that you are required to do or commitments that are non-negotiables.  (work projects, school schedules, sports schedules, travel, holidays, etc).

STEP 2:  Identify 3 windows of time each week, or 12 in the month, where you can get in a workout.  (this is where stay flexible and curious comes into play!)

STEP 3:  Schedule your classes TODAY!   Take a step to make it a commitment.  At CFR, we use an app called Zen Planner.  Our members can book their classes for a full month.  Do that step at the beginning of the month to have the best chance of executing the plan to complete 12 workouts in the month.  If you don’t, then it becomes something you would like, instead of something you are GOING to do.

STEP 4: Block out the 12 classes on your calendar – on paper or in your phone.  If you skip this step, it is easy to schedule over it or at worst – to forget!

*Pro Tip: many fitness class platforms have the ability to sync with your calendar app.  So when you schedule the class it is automatically blocked out as an appointment on your calendar.

Maybe these 4 steps took you longer than 30 mins the first time around.  Keep up with it – at the beginning of each month for the next 6 months, repeat these 4 steps.  You will get faster at the process as your brain gets used to staying flexible and finding those slots of time to get in a workout.

6 months from now you’ll look back, and you will be proud of your consistent effort. And there is no doubt in my mind that you will be enjoying the results of all of your hard work!
